Mary Gauthier is an extraordinary songwriter who sings about the dark aspects that inhabit our lives. In doing so, quite gently and beautifully, she leaves the audience renewed and reawakened.

All her albums are different and wonderful. 'Mercy Now' (2005) is perhaps the most popular, though 'The Foundling' (2010), a song cycle narrative of her own tragic life circumstances has resonated with an ever growing fan base. If you could only buy one album, "Genesis' (2008) might be the one. It is a sampling of her whole repertoire, though for me, 'The Foundling' is her strongest album lyrically and musically. For serious Country fans, I'd suggest 'Dixie Kitchen' (1997) or 'Filth and Fire (2002)'.

Sadly, she is better known and understood outside of her own country of the United States, but it is a joy to me that the ABC has introduced her to the ABC audience in all its forms.

When I heard Mary's depth of voice and lyrics of this song I was deeply moved and the guitar is mesmerizing.
"I fell into the space between us
and that's a long way to fall"
