The Secret Sisters
Real life sisters Laura and Lydia Rogers have been making waves since the release of their highly anticipated debut album last month. Produced by multi-award winner T Bone Burnett, they’ve already won the approval of music heavyweights including Jack White, Elton John and Elvis Costello.
T Bone Burnett describes the sisters as one of those rare musical finds;“In the Secret Sisters, you can hear the history of rural American music from the 1920s and a reverence for every musical genre since”.
It was in the late 1920s, that American record companies from the big cities would often head down South to record people from the country, many of whom didn’t even have electricity at the time. Jimmy Rodgers and The Carter Family were both early discoveries.
Flash forward to the present day, and the Secret Sisters, from the town of Muscle Shoals, Alabama, were according to T Bone Burnett, discovered in a similar fashion. Attending an open audition in Nashville, the girls demo found its way into the producer’s hands, prompting him to release their debut album on his own imprint, Beladroit.
The rise of the Secret Sisters continues, as they gear up to join Willie Nelson on tour next month, and Loretta Lynn in the spring before heading to Europe to support Ray LaMontagne.
