Glasgow's Grand Ole Opry Black and white
Aug 16, 2010 Updated Sep 23, 2010

The Grand Ole Opry in Glasgow may cause a bit of confusion for those unfamiliar with the Scottish institution.

Like its more famous Nashville cousin, the club worships at the altar of all things Country and Western. Set up more than 30 years ago to promote and support live Country music in Scotland, membership rose to more than 2000 in its heyday. Nowadays, the club caters for more modest numbers, but line-dancing classes are still held, ‘shoot-outs’ are re-enacted and cowboy outfits are de rigueur. Whilst the membership may be lower, it also seems a new younger generation are beginning to discover what’s behind the doors of Glasgow’s Grand Ole Opry.
