Hear Johnny Cash's 'Ain't No Grave'
The posthumous disc - titled American VI: Ain’t No Grave - will make up the sixth in his series of American Recordings with producer Rick Rubin and includes covers of tunes by folk and country artists including Kris Kristofferson, Don Robertson and Jack Rollins, Sheryl Crow, and Tom Paxton.
There’s just one Cash original – 'I Corinthians 15:15.' – where the singer quotes the biblical verse, relishing his hold on life while admitting a fear of the unknown.
Cash is joined on the album by Scott and Seth Avett of the Avett Brothers, as well as Smokey Hormel, Benmont Tench, Mike Campbell, Matt Sweeney and Jonny Polonsky.
The recordings were completed not long before Cash’s death in 2003, during which time he was in poor health and mourning the loss of his recently deceased wife June Carter Cash.
