Luke Austen takes centre stage
After spending the past five years touring as part of country music superstar Troy Cassar-Daley’s backing band, Austen is finally stepping out on his own and into the spotlight.
It has been a good year for the Brisbane-based musician so far. Winning the Star Maker Quest earlier in the year placed him in the ranks of past winner's Lee Kernaghan, Keith Urban and James Blundell. Austen learnt his craft as a youngster working alongside Bush-balladeer Brian Young for four years and went on to play with Australian music legends such as Jimmy Barnes, Kasey Chambers, Paul Kelly, Sara Storer and Jimmy Little.
The new album Light Of Day features some heavyweight talent. Nine of the twelve album tracks were written by Austen and his various writing partners Troy Cassar-Daley, Adam Harvey and Vaughn Jones. The remaining three were penned by Troy, Don Walker and Peter Denahy. Pedal steel player Mike Daly, a member of Ryan Adam’s alternative country band Whiskeytown, also makes an appearance.
Light Of Day is released August 20.
