Smoky Dawson memorial for Tamworth

Smoky Dawson
Last updated Jan 18, 2010

A life-size statue of Australian country music legend Smoky Dawson will soon take pride of place in Tamworth, in recognition of his generous spirit and contribution to the local musical landscape.

The memorial will be sculpted by Tanya Bartlett, the artist behind Bowral’s famous Don Bradman statue, and will be unveiled in January 2011.

An appeal for funds to help realise the project has been launched by John Williamson and will run through until January.

Smokey Dawson died last year aged 94, and is survived by his wife and partner in show business, Dot, who recently turned 103.
