Willie Nelson statue for Austin
The tribute will be a permenant fixture near the entrance to the new Austin City Limits recording studios.
“Willie, more than anybody you could imagine in Austin’s recent history, has helped define the city’s identity and make it the city of live music that it has become."
"This statue is a way of acknowledging that and thanking him for that,” says Lawrence Wright from Capitol Area Statues, the not-for-profit corporation dedicated to celebrating the history and culture of Texas through public sculpture.
Austin City Council is also considering renaming part of downtown Austin 'Willie Nelson Boulevard' in honour of the musician.
